Woodstock Police have charged a young person following an alleged assault and hate-motivated incident that occurred Tuesday morning near a local school.

According to the authorities, officers responded on April 22nd, 2026, at approximately 11:35 a.m. to reports of a disturbance in the area of Turtle Island School on Knights Lane.

Investigators say a youth allegedly approached and assaulted an elderly person who was walking along a sidewalk in an unprovoked attack. Police allege the suspect directed racially charged comments toward the victim during the incident. The victim was not physically injured.

Following the confrontation, police say the youth jumped a fence onto school property before leaving the area. Authorities confirmed that no students were harmed and the school was not directly involved in the incident.

As a result of the investigation, the youth has been charged with assault, uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm, and criminal harassment involving threatening conduct. The accused was held for a bail hearing.

Under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, the identity of the accused cannot be released.

Police also say videos of the incident are circulating on social media and are asking members of the public with dashcam, cellphone, or surveillance footage to come forward to assist investigators.

The Woodstock Police Service said it considers the incident hate-motivated and emphasized that such acts “have no place in our community,” adding that it will continue to investigate and hold those responsible accountable.
