Everyone six months of age and older can now get vaccinated
Oxford County residents are being encouraged to roll up their sleeves as flu and COVID-19 vaccines become widely available across the province for the upcoming respiratory illness season.
The province says everyone six months of age and older can now get vaccinated at participating pharmacies, public health units, and doctor or nurse practitioner offices.
“Getting immunized is one of the most effective ways to protect yourself, your loved ones and our communities,” said Sylvia Jones, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health, in a statement. “As we head into respiratory illness season, I encourage everyone to stay up to date with their flu and COVID-19 vaccines, which are free, safe, effective and available across the province.”
Health officials say receiving both the flu and COVID-19 vaccines at the same time is safe and helps avoid multiple trips to health-care providers.
The province is also continuing to offer free RSV immunizations for high-risk groups. The adult RSV vaccines, Abrysvo® and Arexvy®, are now available to all Ontarians aged 75 and older, while protection programs continue for certain adults aged 60 and up in long-term care or retirement homes, as well as for infants and high-risk young children. Pregnant women may also receive the Abrysvo® vaccine to help protect their newborns at birth.
“Immunization remains one of the most powerful tools in our toolbox to prevent serious illness and hospitalizations,” said Dr. Kieran Moore, Ontario’s Chief Medical Officer of Health. “Getting your flu, COVID-19 and RSV vaccines, if eligible, this fall is safe, convenient, and helps protect our most vulnerable populations.”
All vaccines are free of charge for eligible residents and available now across Ontario.
