Aylmer man charged with impaired driving after vehicle found stuck in snowbank

Police were first called about a suspected impaired driver who had just left a local gas station.

A 52-year-old Aylmer man is facing multiple charges following an alleged impaired driving incident Monday evening.

Aylmer Police Service say they were first called about a suspected impaired driver who had just left a local gas station. A short time later, officers were dispatched to the area of Elm Street and Beech Street, where a vehicle matching the description was found stuck in a snowbank.

Police say the driver was arrested for impaired operation and transported to St. Thomas Police Service headquarters for breath testing, where he allegedly refused to provide a sample.

During the interaction, officers say the man was belligerent and made repeated threats to punch and assault police.

He has been charged with impaired operation, refusal to provide a breath sample, and uttering threats to cause bodily harm.

The accused was held until sober and later released on an undertaking with conditions.
