Behind the scenes work advances on Ingersoll’s new Multi-Use Recreation Centre

Work on Ingersoll’s long-anticipated Multi-Use Recreation Centre continues behind the scenes, town officials say, even as the project site appears quiet to the public.

Since the town announced plans for the new facility last April, staff and consultants have been moving through what officials describe as an intensive “digital construction” phase — a critical step before physical work begins.

Rather than pouring concrete, the current focus is on detailed design and technical planning to ensure the centre functions efficiently and remains sustainable for decades. This includes creating a digital model, or “digital twin,” of the building to test how spaces will interact once constructed.

Designers are examining everything from sound control — ensuring noise from gymnasiums does not interfere with community meeting rooms — to how visitors will move through common areas such as the lobby during peak times. Mechanical, electrical, plumbing and high-efficiency HVAC systems are also being mapped out to support long-term energy efficiency and lower operating costs.

At the same time, the project is undergoing a rigorous regulatory and site-preparation process. Town officials say extensive surveys and soil testing are being completed to confirm the site can safely support the structure. The town is also coordinating with local utility providers to ensure water, power and other services are seamlessly integrated with existing infrastructure.

Officials liken the work underway to the unseen portion of an iceberg — essential groundwork that allows the visible stages of construction to proceed smoothly later on.

“The groundbreaking in 2026 will be the part residents see,” the town said in a statement. “But the work happening now is what keeps the entire project on track.”

The Multi-Use Recreation Centre is intended to serve as a major community hub, offering space for sports, recreation and gatherings. Town officials emphasize that careful planning at this stage helps avoid costly changes later and ensures the facility meets the community’s needs well into the future.

The town says the project remains on schedule and encourages residents to stay informed as milestones are reached. Updates and email alerts about the MURC project are available through the town’s website.
