Officials in Woodstock was to issue some weather-related reminders
With additional snowfall in the forecast, the City of Woodstock is reminding residents to follow winter weather and snow-clearing guidelines to help keep roads and sidewalks safe.
City officials are asking motorists to avoid parking on streets until snow has been cleared, noting that overnight parking restrictions remain in effect until March 31. Vehicles are prohibited from parking on city streets between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m. to allow plows to operate efficiently.
Residents are also reminded to give snowplows ample space, as operators may need extra room or may be required to back up. Snow from driveways and sidewalks must be piled on private property and not pushed onto roadways, which can create hazards and result in charges under the Highway Traffic Act.
Property owners are required to clear snow and ice from sidewalks bordering their property within 24 hours of a snowfall. In cases where plows push snow back onto already cleared curb-faced sidewalks, Public Works crews will return once road plowing is complete.
On garbage and recycling days, residents are encouraged to place containers near the road edge but within their driveway to prevent interference with snow removal or loss in snowbanks.
“Woodstock and the surrounding areas have received a tremendous amount of snow over the past few weeks, and staff have been conducting winter control operations including plowing, salting and sanding 24/7,” said Jeff Molenhuis, the city’s director of public works. “The biggest way residents can help is by not parking on the street so that our plows can fully clear the snow.”
City officials also urge residents to plan ahead, allow extra travel time and expect delays during winter conditions.
