You're going to have to continue to bundle up if going outside in Oxford County
Environment Canada is forecasting continued extreme cold across the Southwestern Public Health region, with temperatures expected to reach lows of –24°C and wind chill values near –30°C.
The cold conditions, which have persisted in recent weeks, are forecast to continue through Saturday.
Public health officials are urging residents to take precautions to reduce the risk of cold-related injuries, including frostbite and hypothermia. Those most vulnerable include older adults, infants and young children, outdoor workers, people participating in outdoor recreation, and individuals experiencing homelessness who may lack adequate shelter, clothing or food.
Hypothermia occurs when body temperature drops below 35°C, impairing clear thinking and movement. Warning signs include shivering, exhaustion, confusion, slurred speech, fumbling hands and drowsiness. Frostbite can cause numbness and colour changes to exposed skin, particularly the face, fingers and toes. Medical care should be sought if symptoms are suspected.
