A warning is being put out by Southwestern Public Health
Southwestern Public Health is warning residents about an unauthorized illness outbreak sign circulating in the community.
The forged notice uses the Southwestern Public Health logo but was not created, issued, or approved by the health unit. Police have been notified, and the situation is under investigation.
The false document claims there is an outbreak in the area and advises visitors to call ahead before entering certain facilities. Southwestern Public Health says there is no outbreak at this time and residents should ignore the information.
“We want to assure the public that this sign is not an official Southwestern Public Health communication,” said Susan McIsaac, Director of Health Protection. She added that copying or sharing fake public health alerts is a serious concern.
Southwestern Public Health says any real outbreak alerts would be shared widely through its official website, verified social media channels, and direct communication with community partners.
The health unit is working to address the unauthorized use of its logo and branding. Residents are encouraged to rely on trusted sources and report suspicious materials to Southwestern Public Health.
