Holiday RIDE campaign results released: 269 impaired charges in West Region

Campaign sees record number of spot checks in OPP West Region.

The annual Festive RIDE campaign has wrapped up, and police say the results show a strong effort to keep roads safe during the busy holiday season.

From November 20th, 2025, to January 1st, 2026, Ontario Provincial Police West Region officers carried out 3,095 RIDE spot checks across 13 detachments. This was the highest number of Festive RIDE checks in the West Region in the past five years.

By the end of the campaign, 269 drivers were charged with impaired driving. Another 40 drivers received warn-range suspensions. Across Ontario, OPP officers laid 1,268 impaired driving charges and issued 150 warn-range suspensions during more than 11,000 RIDE checks in areas patrolled by the OPP.

In Elgin County, OPP held 364 RIDE Check events that led to 10 impaired driving charges. They also issued 2 warn-range suspensions.

Last year’s Festive RIDE campaign in the West Region included 1,938 spot checks, which resulted in 292 impaired driving charges and 19 warn-range suspensions.

Police also remind the public that if they suspect someone is driving while impaired, they should call 9-1-1 right away.
