Ingersoll council approves $62.3M budget with 1.98% property tax increase

Residents of Ingersoll will have to pay a bit extra in 2026

The Town of Ingersoll has adopted its 2026 municipal budget, authorizing total spending of $62.33 million, with $24.43 million allocated for operations and $37.9 million earmarked for capital projects.

The budget was approved at the January 12th council meeting. 

The operating budget reflects a total gross expenditure of $24,430,283, up from $23,554,916 in 2025. The town’s total taxation requirement will increase to $19,502,044, a rise of $722,922 or 3.85 per cent, translating into an effective property tax rate increase of 1.98 per cent for Ingersoll residents.

Council emphasized that the 2026 budget balances continued service delivery with long-term financial sustainability. Key highlights include:

  • $4.2 million dedicated to public safety services, covering police, fire, and by-law enforcement.

  • $4.18 million in transfers to reserves to ensure future capital projects are fully funded.

  • $750,000 contribution to the Multi-Use Recreation Centre (MURC) project.

  • Ongoing support for local non-profits, community groups, and youth programs.

  • Continued economic development initiatives to attract investment and retain local businesses.

  • Strategic use of reserves and reserve funds to optimize cash flow and maintain infrastructure.

  • No new debt financing is required, reflecting the town’s prudent fiscal management.

The 2026 capital budget, totaling $37.9 million, outlines investments in infrastructure, facilities, equipment, and technology that support essential municipal services. The capital plan includes 60 projects, funded through a combination of reserves ($21.35 million), reserve funds ($1.35 million), grants and fundraising ($5.95 million), land sale proceeds ($7.4 million), and a County contribution ($65,000). In addition, $1.75 million in prior-year projects are being carried forward.

The budget also marks the groundbreaking and first phase of the Multi-Use Recreation Centre, a long-awaited facility that promises lasting recreational and social benefits for the community.
