London man charged after investigation into racing
A 21-year-old London man is facing charges after an off-duty police officer spotted two BMWs racing through the city’s south end over the weekend.
Police say the officer witnessed the vehicles speeding near Colonel Talbot Road and Orr Drive just after midnight on Saturday. The officer, stopped at an intersection, was able to identify one of the drivers and record a licence plate.
A short time later, the same officer reported seeing up to 30 vehicles lined up near Colonel Talbot Road and Southminster Bourne, with about 50 bystanders watching as cars raced each other.
The BMWs were again seen travelling northbound at high speeds.
The following day, police say the officer identified one of the drivers and arrested him at his home.
Mohammed A. M. Ayyad, 21, of London, is charged with dangerous operation of a conveyance, racing a motor vehicle and having an improper muffler.
His driver’s licence has been suspended and the vehicle was seized. Ayyad is scheduled to appear in London court on October 25th.
