Charges laid in connection with downtown London vehicle theft
A London man is facing multiple charges after police say a stolen SUV was taken from outside a downtown hotel.
Police say the incident happened around 8:45 p.m. on Sunday, when a man allegedly entered the vehicle without permission as guests were loading equipment into it at a Dundas Street hotel. The SUV was driven westbound on Dundas.
About 15 minutes later, an officer spotted the vehicle on Queens Avenue. Police say the driver attempted to evade officers before stopping at the end of a dead-end street and fleeing on foot.
Officers pursued the suspect, who they say resisted arrest before being taken into custody. No injuries were reported.
Justin Timothy Ryckman, 23, of London, is charged with theft of a motor vehicle, failing to stop for police, impaired operation, operation while prohibited, breach of probation, and resisting arrest.
Ryckman remains in custody and was scheduled to appear in London court Monday.
