More than 14,000 Hydro One customers facing planned Sunday outage

Hydro One says crews will be replacing aging switches and related equipment.

If you’re in Woodstock or Oxford North, you may want to make sure your phone is charged before heading to bed Saturday night.

More than 14,000 Hydro One customers are expected to lose power during a planned outage Sunday, October 18, from approximately 1 a.m. until 7 a.m.

Hydro One says crews will be replacing aging switches and related equipment at the Woodstock Transformer Station. The overnight timing was selected because energy use is typically lower, helping reduce the impact on customers.

Affected customers will receive an automated phone call or text message with information about the outage.

Residents are encouraged to charge cellphones and other devices ahead of time and make sure appliances, including stoves, are turned off. Keeping refrigerator and freezer doors closed will also help keep food cold during the outage.

Anyone relying on an electric alarm clock may also want to use a cellphone or battery-powered alarm instead.

Customers can check Hydro One’s outage map for updates and additional information.
