Some councillors confirm re‑election bids while others remain undecided.
As Norfolk County residents prepare for the 2026 municipal election, local councillors are beginning to share their intentions about whether they plan to run again.
Councillor Mike Columbus says it’s still early and he expects to make a decision sometime during the summer of 2026.
Councillor Tom Masschaele confirmed he does intend to run again this year.
Councillor Chris Van Paassen raised questions about election rules, noting that while potential candidates cannot spend money before registering on May 1, media coverage of their intentions can sometimes fall into a “grey area” regarding donated advertising and thus has declined to respond directly.
Councillor Linda Vandendriessche says she is still considering her options but expressed her love for her role and the residents of Ward 2.
Councillor Kim Huffman confirmed she plans to seek another term, citing ongoing large projects with staff that will extend into the next council term.
Councillor Alan Duthie said this time he is currently undecided.
Councillor Adam Veri also confirmed he will run again, emphasizing the progress made in Ward 6 and his desire to continue working with residents, businesses, and community groups in Port Dover and across the ward.
At the time of this story, Mayor Amy Martin had not responded to questions about her plans for the election.
