Norfolk County's Ward 4 election has finally been decided, with incumbent Chris Van Paassen's name drawn from a hat.
Van Paassen and challenger Jeni Lambert each received 858 votes on election night, and the recount produced the exact same result, triggering a tie-breaking provision under Ontario's Municipal Elections Act.
Lambert accepted the results, but said she wants to see the act change.
She also noted there is movement as Haldimand-Norfolk MPP Bobbi Ann Brady already tabling a motion at Queen's Park, with Brady saying drawing a name from a hat should not be acceptable any more.
The result is not yet officially declared, as eligible applicants have 15 days to request a judicial recount before the clerk can formally declare Van Paassen elected.
