Good Samaritan steps up to avoid dangerous situation in Norwich

Provincial police are investigating after a stop sign was found damaged and partially blocking a live lane in Oxford County.

The Oxford OPP say officers responded around 4:45 a.m. on Saturday, to a report of a dangerous condition at Norwich Road and Oxford Road 13.

A good Samaritan spotted the sign and called police immediately. Investigators say it is unclear whether the sign was struck in a collision or removed intentionally.

Police are reminding the public that removing or damaging a stop sign is a serious offence, as it can cause crashes resulting in injury or death. They note that anyone involved in a collision that damages public or private property must report it to authorities.

The OPP thanked members of the public for reporting damaged road signs and local roads departments for responding quickly to ensure safety.
