Orange-level weather warning issued for Tillsonburg as freezing rain moves in

Ice accretion of five to 10 millimetres is likely, with localized areas possibly seeing up to 15 millimetres.

An orange-level weather warning has been issued for Tillsonburg, with forecasters warning of significant freezing rain expected to impact the community throughout the day. Environment officials say several hours of freezing rain could lead to widespread ice buildup, creating hazardous conditions for drivers and pedestrians.

Ice accretion of five to 10 millimetres is likely, with localized areas possibly seeing up to 15 millimetres. Strong easterly winds gusting up to 60 kilometres per hour are also forecast, increasing the risk of downed trees and utility outages. The combination of ice and wind could result in power disruptions and damage to infrastructure.

The freezing rain is expected to begin this morning and gradually taper off by this evening, though freezing drizzle may continue overnight. The most dangerous conditions are expected in higher elevation areas, while locations closer to Lake Huron may experience slightly milder temperatures and less severe impacts.

Roads and walkways are expected to become icy and slippery, with significant delays possible during peak travel hours. Officials are urging residents to avoid unnecessary travel, allow extra time on the roads, and use extreme caution when walking outdoors due to the risk of slips and falls.
