Homeowners looking to add a rental unit to their property can now apply for funding through Oxford County’s My Second Unit program.
The program offers interest-free, forgivable loans of up to $30,000 to help create a secondary dwelling — such as a basement apartment — complete with its own entrance, kitchen, bedroom, and bathroom.
To qualify, homeowners must live in the home for a 10-year forgivable period and rent the unit at or below average market rates to eligible tenants.
Oxford County says the initiative supports both homeowners and the community by boosting rental availability in a region with low vacancy rates.
Applications are open until December 15, 2025, with funding available on a first-come, first-served basis.
