Encampment response and broadband expansion key topics for Oxford County at ROMA.
Just back from the Rural Ontario Municipal Association conference, Oxford County Warden Marcus Ryan tells us it was a constructive get-together that included talks about continued broadband built out.
Ryan who attended this year's ROMA conference as the chairman of the Western Ontario Wardens Caucus was involved in one particularly important face to face. A meeting with Ontario's Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing to discuss encampment response, emergency shelter and wrap-around services for the homeless.
Ryan says the way forward has to include a strategy to move people out of the state of being homeless.
Ryan notes that part of what's discussed at ROMA isn't for public consumption yet, because process does involve some discretion.
Ryans says the bottom line is you don't go to these meetings, ask for a lot of money and then leave with a briefcase full of cash.
Ryan notes almost every member of County Council attended ROMA along with several members of each of the area municipal councils.
