The Red-tailed Hawk was captured in London but did not record or band it as required
Two men from London, Ontario, have been fined a total of $3,500 after conservation officers found they illegally handled a specially protected Red-tailed Hawk.
Robert Boyd, a licensed falconer, pleaded guilty to several violations, including transferring a wild raptor without authorization, failing to band the bird, failing to update his falconry logbook, and making a false statement. He was fined $2,000 and is prohibited from sponsoring apprentice falconers for two years.
Apprentice falconer Brandon Korth also pleaded guilty to keeping a live protected bird without a licence, possessing an unmarked bird, and falsifying a logbook entry. He was fined $1,500, and his falconry licence was cancelled for two years.
The Ontario Court of Justice heard that in October 2024, Boyd captured a Red-tailed Hawk in London but did not record or band it as required. Investigators discovered he later transferred the bird to Korth, who had no licence. Both submitted annual falconry reports containing false information.
