St. Thomas police are investigating an online fraud that resulted in a $20,000 loss for a resident.
Police say the incident was reported Sunday and stems from online interactions that began in August. Investigators allege the victim followed a series of website prompts and links after being led to believe they could gain access to a large sum of money from an online company.
As part of the scheme, the victim purchased multiple gift cards and provided them to the company, resulting in a total loss of approximately $20,000.
The investigation is ongoing.
