Take Back the Night March lights up Tillsonburg

All ages and genders are welcome to join this evening of solidarity.

Oxford County residents are invited to gather in downtown Tillsonburg tonight for the annual Take Back the Night March, a global movement that raises awareness about gender-based violence. This year’s event begins at the Clocktower on Bridge Street West with sign-making and community displays starting at 6:30 p.m. A land acknowledgment, speeches, and a poem will follow at 6:45 p.m.

The march steps off at 7:00 p.m. for a 1.5-kilometre walk through downtown streets, filled with chants, glow sticks, and noisemakers. A closing ceremony with refreshments is planned for 7:45 p.m. Participants of all ages and genders are welcome to join this evening of solidarity.

Take Back the Night began in the 1970s as a way for women to reclaim their right to feel safe at night. Oxford County rotates the event each year between Woodstock, Ingersoll, and Tillsonburg to keep the message strong across the region.
