Three Oxford County Seniors' Centres Receive Provincial Funding

Three seniors' centres in Oxford County are receiving a combined $41,250 in provincial funding to support programs and activities for older adults.

Oxford MPP Ernie Hardeman announced the funding, which will be divided equally among South Gate Centre in Woodstock, the Tillsonburg Senior Centre and Ingersoll Services for Seniors. Each organization will receive $13,750.

The money represents the third quarterly installment of funding for the current fiscal year through Ontario's Seniors Active Living Centre program.

The program supports in-person and virtual activities designed to help adults aged 55 and older stay physically active, maintain their health and remain socially connected to their communities.

Ontario has committed up to $22.8 million to Seniors Active Living Centres this year.

The number of centres across the province has grown from 299 to 416 in just over a year, expanding access to recreational, educational and social programming.

This year also marks the 60th anniversary of provincial support for the centres, which were originally established as Elderly Persons Centres under legislation introduced in 1966.

More information about the program and participating locations is available on the Ontario government website.
