It was a remarkable show of community spirit in Tillsonburg on Thursday as residents came together for the inaugural Country 107.3, Giant FM 101.3 and Tim Hortons All Hands On Deck Food Drive.
The one-day event at Zehrs, No Frills and Sobeys raised nearly $15,000 worth of food and funds in support of the Helping Hand Food Bank.
Thank you to our presenting sponsor Tim Hortons on Simcoe Street, Oxford Street and at the Town Centre — as listeners and community members answered the call to help local families and students.
Coordinator at the food bank Sam Hamilton was so pleased with the day's success. By the end of the day, the food drive had collected more than 3,500 pounds of food, enough to provide an estimated 3,000 meals for people in the community.
The response from Tillsonburg residents was overwhelming, with listeners and local residents showing up throughout the day to donate and support the Helping Hand Food Bank.
The inaugural food drive brought together Country 107.3, Giant FM and Tim Hortons Tillsonburg for a common goal — helping make sure local families and students had access to food when they needed it most.
Hamilton had a simple message of gratitude for the community.
The event also highlighted the importance of community support for local food assistance programs. The Town of Tillsonburg lists food assistance among the social services available to residents in the community.
Organizers expressed their thanks to everyone who donated, volunteered and helped make Thursday's event such a success.
In just one day, Tillsonburg showed once again what could happen when a community came together.
Nearly $15,000 in food and funds, more than 3,500 pounds of food and approximately 3,000 meals represented a tremendous contribution to the Helping Hand Food Bank and the local families and students it serves.
