Tillsonburg Town Council has approved financial incentives connected to the proposed Bridges Event Centre at 101 Club House Way, while the future of the Annandale Ball Diamonds remains under review.
Council approved a strategic tax-increment grant for The Bridges Inc. as part of the proposed redevelopment of the property into an Event Centre. The project has previously gone through the Town’s Community Improvement Plan process, with Council considering incentives intended to support the redevelopment.
The proposed Event Centre is one of several development-related matters involving the property that have come before Council this year.
Council has also been examining the future of the Annandale Ball Diamonds as part of a broader review of recreation space in Tillsonburg.
The Town is considering the Annandale Ball Diamonds on Concession Street East together with its municipally owned Mall Road site as potential locations for future recreation uses. Concepts released by the Town include a possible modern, multi-use sportsfield complex at the Mall Road property, while the Annandale site could potentially see changes to its current use.
The Town says the Annandale diamonds currently operate at capacity during peak periods, creating scheduling challenges for tournaments, weather-related make-up games and community use. A future centralized complex could include lit diamonds, sports fields, parking, trails and other amenities, with development potentially occurring in phases.
However, no final decision has been made on the future of the Annandale property or on construction of a new sportsplex. The Town is currently reviewing public feedback gathered through its consultation process before bringing potential next steps back to Council.
The Town’s current project information says the Sportsfield Complex project has an approved capital budget of approximately $6.284 million, although any future development would require further Council direction, planning approvals, studies and consultation.
Council’s September 14 agenda also included a report on parkland dedication associated with Annandale Heights, which was received for information.
