Town flags will remain at half-mast for one week following deadly wildfire emergency

The Town of Tillsonburg is lowering flags at its properties to half-mast for one week in recognition of the deadly wildfire emergency at Canadian Forces Base Wainwright in Alberta.

The fire broke out in the base’s training area on October 17 and spread rapidly. The Canadian Armed Forces confirmed fatalities and injuries, as military and civilian emergency crews responded to the incident.

The Town says the lowered flags are a sign of respect for the Canadian Armed Forces members who lost their lives, those who were injured, and everyone affected by the tragedy.

Flags will remain at half-mast for one week and are scheduled to return to full-mast on Monday, October 26.

The incident has prompted expressions of condolence and support for the affected military members, their families and the wider Canadian Armed Forces community. The federal Department of National Defence says supporting those affected remains its immediate priority.
