Township of Zorra among municipalities to receive provincial emergency preparedness funding

The Township of Zorra will receive $46,950 to purchase a trailer that will serve as a mobile emergency operations centre.

Communities across Ontario are receiving a boost to their emergency preparedness efforts, including a local investment in Oxford County.

The provincial government announced $5 million in funding through the Community Emergency Preparedness Grant, supporting 115 municipalities and organizations with up to $50,000 each for equipment, training and emergency planning.

As part of that funding, the Township of Zorra will receive $46,950 to purchase a trailer that will serve as a mobile emergency operations centre. The unit will be equipped with cots, blankets and other supplies, and will be developed in partnership with the City of Woodstock.

Provincial officials say the funding is aimed at helping communities better respond to emergencies and natural disasters, whether by upgrading facilities, improving communications or enhancing training.

Since launching in 2023, the province says the grant program has invested $15 million to support more than 300 recipients across Ontario.
