The Ministry of Education has approved an additional $10.5 million in funding.
The Thames Valley District School Board is one step closer to bringing a new elementary school to Thamesford.
The Ministry of Education has approved an additional $10.5 million in funding for the board to acquire land for the project, bringing the total investment to nearly $34 million. The original $23.4 million was approved earlier this year for the construction of a new junior kindergarten to grade 4 school and 88-space child care centre.
The new school will be built on a 7.7-acre site at 149 Brock Street, within the upcoming Riverside Village development — a major residential project expected to add more than 1,000 new homes to the community.
“We are very excited to announce this milestone,” said Bill Tucker, TVDSB Director of Education. “It shows our board’s continuing commitment to provide quality education for all students.”
Zorra Township Mayor Marcus Ryan says the project is a great example of local collaboration. “Together, we’re building more than just a school,” Ryan said. “We’re building a vibrant future for generations to come.”
Once construction begins, the new school will have space for 479 students from junior kindergarten to grade 4. The current Thamesford Public School will be converted to serve students in grades 5 through 8 once the new facility opens.
No opening date has been set, but construction is expected to move forward as development in Riverside Village progresses.
