UPDATE: Water and wastewater senior manager talks about odour at plant

It will probably be early in the new year when work begins on a permanent fix.

Updating our story on the odours from a wastewater treatment plant in Tillsonburg.

The issue cropped up after some equipment upgrades at the Coronation Park plant.

Oxford County's senior manager of water and wastewater services Don Ford tells us the plant odours are exhausted through the rooftop HVAC system.

Ford says a consultant engineer who worked on the upgrades has been brought in to work with staff to resolve the issue.

Ford says steps are already being taken to improve the situation.

The stop-gap fix includes increasing the removal of the material screened from the wastewater to weekly instead of bi-weekly so it doesn't sit in the screening room as long.

It will probably be early in the new year when work begins on a permanent fix.

Ford says the odours are not a health concern but it's important the problem be dealt with as quickly as possible because the nuisance odours impact peoples enjoyment of their property.
