An interactive Christmas light map created by a Tillsonburg business owner is helping residents find festive displays across town and bringing the community together during the holiday season.
Michelle Wegg of Realm Walker Games says the map began in 2021, toward the end of the pandemic.
Living in Tillsonburg, she often saw residents asking online where to find Christmas lights, since the town does not have a large centralized display.
Wegg started collecting addresses herself and built a digital, live-updating map.
Over time, residents began sending in their own locations, helping the project grow. Today, the map includes more than 300 decorated homes, with many more expected to be added.
The map is fully interactive and can be overlaid onto Google Maps, making it easy to use on a phone. There is no requirement for how many decorations a home must have to be included, but Wegg says special displays are marked with stars instead of a light icons.
Wegg says feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, with users surprised by how many decorated streets they discover, and the map has received more than 26,000 views over the four years.
The Christmas light map is shared through Realm Walker Games’ Facebook page and is updated throughout the season.
