What's Good in Tillsonburg? Coldest Night of the Year walk returns to support housing in Oxford County

Funds raised will support transitional housing programs in Tillsonburg and Ingersoll.

Residents across Oxford County are being invited to step outside and support neighbours in need during this year’s Coldest Night of the Year.

The annual winter fundraiser takes place Saturday, February 28, with local walks happening in Tillsonburg and Ingersoll. Funds raised will support transitional housing programs operated by United Way Oxford, known as the Lighthouses.

Kelly Gilson, Executive Director of United Way Oxford, says the event is about more than just a walk.

The Tillsonburg and Ingersoll Lighthouses provide supported housing for up to 364 days for individuals who have experienced homelessness or housing insecurity.

The goal is to help residents stabilize their lives and move into permanent, affordable housing.

Gilson stresses that donations stay local helping those in the community, as homelessness continues to rise across the region.

She added that supported housing, like Lighthouse is a solution to help people get back on their feet.

Participants can choose a 2K or 5K walk, volunteer, or donate. Registration is available at cnoy.org by selecting Tillsonburg or Ingersoll.
