Grades 4–6 students asked to share their vision of safe, caring homes for all Canadians.
Canadian children in Grades 4 through 6 are being invited to submit a poem or essay to the Meaning of Home contest, asking them to answer: “What does home mean to you?” Kingston's Habitat for Humanity community engagement manager, Rosa Mordasiewicz explains that this is a valuable lesson for students to experience.
The annual contest aims to encourage creativity while raising awareness of the importance of safe, affordable housing. Every submission result in a donation to a local Habitat for Humanity Canada affiliate to support accessible housing projects. Rosa Mordasiewicz says that this is also an opportunity for students to give back to their community in a huge way.
Grand-prize winners earn a $30,000 grant for their community’s Habitat build — plus a tablet and a pizza party for their class. Runners-up receive smaller grants for local housing projects.
Parents and teachers can register online to submit student entries starting January 2026.
