A new community exhibition at Museum London is shining a light on the joys and struggles of early parenthood.

Snapshots of Us opens February 21 in the Interior Gallery and runs until September 27, 2026. The exhibition brings together photographs, personal objects, and written reflections from nine London-area parents, offering an honest look at life during a baby’s first year.

Dr. Amber Lloydlangston, Curator of History and Contemporary Culture, says the exhibition is about family — making a family, growing a family, and being a family. She says it explores not only the joys, but also the challenges and heartbreak that can come with those experiences.

The project began when community artist Danielle Longfield approached the museum with the idea for the exhibition.

Eight families took part, with one couple sharing their story together. Lloydlangston says common themes emerged, including connection, adaptation, love, illness, and mental health.

Visitors will see deeply personal items, including a customized walker adapted for a mother with cerebral palsy and a tiny newborn onesie from a premature baby.

The exhibition is inspired by the PhotoVoice model, encouraging participants to tell their own stories in their own words.

In connection with Snapshots of Us, Museum London will host a Smartphone Photography Workshop on March 8, followed by a “History Now!” talk with the exhibition’s co-curators on March 26.
