What's Good in Tillsonburg? Thunder could soon face new OEHL rival as Simcoe plans comeback

The Gunners origins date back to 1951 in Simcoe.

The Tillsonburg Thunder and the Ontario Elite Hockey League (OEHL) are hoping to soon welcome the Simcoe Gunners to the South Division.

The Gunners origins date back to 1951 in Simcoe, but the team folded in the early 2000's.

General Manager Gary Lazou believes 2026 is the perfect time for their return.

Lazou, says the Gunners feel the Ontario Elite Hockey League (OEHL), is a perfect fit.

The league accommodates players aged 22 and up, allowing former junior players, as well as older athletes balancing families and careers, to continue playing competitive hockey.

The team has already received strong support from players, potential coaches, and local businesses.

He says the focus is on community involvement, and without Norfolk support, there will not be a Gunners hockey team.

With community backing, the team hopes to revive senior hockey in Simcoe and offer the Tillsonburg Thunder a new rival.
