What's Good in Tillsonburg? Tillsonburg’s Jayden King ready for Brier debut on national stage

King said community support has meant everything heading into the event.

Excitement is building in Tillsonburg as local curler Jayden King and his rink prepare to represent Ontario at the 2026 Montana’s Brier in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador.

King and his team from the Tillsonburg Curling Club earned their berth after winning the Ontario Tankard. He is finishing up school in Hamilton before flying east with his teammates.

Since the Tankard victory, preparation has been steady. The team meets weekly for practice, trains individually, and recently held a full practice weekend with games to sharpen their play.

King said community support has meant everything heading into the event.

Ontario opens Friday night against Team Nova Scotia, with mostly one-game days scheduled through pool play. The top three teams in each pool advance to the playoff round.

Although this is King’s first Brier appearance, he believes the team is ready.

A recent send-off in Tillsonburg drew a large crowd of supporters.

The team now hopes to make the community proud on Canada’s biggest curling stage as they compete at the 2026 Montana’s Brier, the national men’s curling championship. The Brier begins today (February 27) and runs through Sunday, March 8 at the Mary Brown’s Centre in St. John’s. The event features 18 teams, including provincial and territorial champions, along with Team Canada, represented by defending champion Brad Jacobs.
