United Way Oxford is celebrating a record-breaking year after the second annual Ultimate Burger Battle raised $20,912 to support local programs across the county.

Resource Development Coordinator Megan Porter says the event aims to support restaurants while giving residents a fun and delicious way to give back.

This year’s competition expanded beyond Oxford’s major centres to include Tavistock and Thamesford, helping more communities get involved. Porter says the response exceeded expectations for the second straight year.

Several restaurants earned top honours. Mad Mash Brewery in Tavistock won the People’s Choice Award and was also named Ultimate Burger of the Year by community ambassadors. The Charles Dickens Pub in Woodstock placed second, while The Copper Mug in Tillsonburg finished third.

The Mill in Tillsonburg sold the most burgers overall, moving an impressive 609 "Buddy Burgers".

All funds support United Way programs that reach one in five people in Oxford County, including student nutrition, dementia support, and youth mentoring.

Porter also thanked the event’s returning sponsors, Sierra Construction and the Oxford County Cattlemen’s Association, for their continued generosity. She says their support—and the enthusiasm of all participating restaurants—has organizers excited to grow the program even further next year.
