What's Good in Tillsonburg? Veterans banners honour 91 heroes across Blandford-Blenheim

The Veterans Banner project, led by the Plattsville & District Heritage Society.

Ninety-one veterans are being remembered across Blandford-Blenheim this Remembrance season through the Veterans Banner project, led by the Plattsville & District Heritage Society.

The initiative features personalized banners hanging proudly on hydro poles throughout Plattsville and Bright. Denise Tew of the Heritage Society tells us what's on the banners.

Sponsors provide the picture and service details of the veteran. Tew says it’s a meaningful way for local families and even new residents, to share their history and remember their loved ones.

Tew is aware of one veteran that was able to see their own banner. Thelma Grimes-Steele, who turned 100 years old this past summer.

The project has grown with the support of the Township of Blandford-Blenheim. Veterans from World War I, World War II, Korea, and Afghanistan are represented—including Bright’s own Tyler Todd.

Complementing the banners is the Poppy Project, a community art effort coordinated by volunteers Denise Tew and Denise DeJonge. It features hundreds of hand-knitted and crocheted poppies displayed across the township. Created by local volunteers and schoolchildren,

Together, both projects serve as a heartfelt tribute to those who served and continue to inspire reflection ahead of Remembrance Day.
