Police have confirmed that the shelter-in-place advisory lifted yesterday in Woodstock was connected to a firearms-related incident in Brant County.
According to the Ontario Provincial Police, officers first responded around 3:47 a.m. on February 12, to a report in Burford that a person had been struck by a vehicle. The complainant told police the driver also displayed a firearm. The weapon was not discharged and no injuries were reported.
The suspect was later located at a residence on Huron Street in Woodstock at approximately 7:30 a.m. Members of the Woodstock Police Service assisted Brant County OPP and safely took the individual into custody.
As previously reported, residents and businesses in the area of Huron Street and Ingersoll Avenue were asked to shelter in place as a precaution while officers dealt with what was described at the time as a potentially armed individual. The advisory was lifted shortly after 8:30 a.m., and police confirmed there is no ongoing threat to public safety.
A 33-year-old has been charged with:
* Assault with a Weapon
* Pointing a Firearm
* Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
* Careless Use of a Firearm
* Dangerous Operation
* Driving While Prohibited
The accused has been transferred to Brant County OPP custody.
