An investigation is continuing over the shooting spree that took place in London late last week
Police have charged two 18-year-olds after six targeted shootings were reported across the city over a 72-hour period, prompting a large-scale investigation and an overnight pursuit.
The incidents began early Friday, when officers were called to Gatewood Road and Huron Street after a homeowner reported hearing a gunshot. Police say a single round struck the home’s front door. Hours later, officers responded to Rhine Avenue and Founders Row, where a residence had been hit multiple times.
On Saturday night, police were called back to the Gatewood Road home after another round of shots. Investigators reviewed surveillance video and identified a black Jeep Cherokee as a possible suspect vehicle.
Two more shootings followed late Saturday: one near Primrose Court and Cleveland Avenue, and another in the Banbury Road and Goodman Drive area. A fifth residence was struck by a single bullet. Video showed a suspect wearing black pants, a black jacket, a red hoodie and a face covering, fleeing in a dark SUV.
The sixth incident was reported just after 2 a.m. Monday in the Kipps Lane and Arbour Glenn area. No injuries were reported in any of the shootings.
Shortly after the final incident, officers spotted a black Jeep Cherokee matching the suspect description speeding near Egerton Street and Hamilton Road. Police attempted a traffic stop before pursuing the vehicle to Wellington Road and Commissioners Road East, where two occupants fled on foot. With assistance from the canine unit, officers arrested a man and woman nearby. The Cherokee had been reported stolen, and police recovered a .22-calibre firearm.
Jagger Perse, 18, and Shanaya Ireland, 18, both of London, face numerous firearm and property-related charges. Perse is also charged with dangerous driving, failing to stop for police, and discharging a firearm with intent. Both remain in custody and are scheduled to appear in court Monday.
Police believe all six homes were deliberately targeted and that the shootings are connected. The Major Crime Section is leading the investigation and urging anyone with information or surveillance footage to contact police.
Officers say enhanced patrols have been deployed in the affected neighbourhoods as the investigation continues.
