London Police ready for an influx of students in the city
Police in London say they are relaunching Project LEARN this week as post-secondary students return to the city.
The program — which stands for Liquor Enforcement and Reduction of Noise — begins Friday and will run through September. Officers say residents can expect an increased police presence in neighbourhoods near Western University, Fanshawe College and in the downtown core.
First introduced in 2007, the initiative aims to address nuisance parties, open alcohol, underage drinking and public intoxication, while also partnering with municipal law enforcement to respond to noise complaints.
Acting Superintendent Dave Pratt says the goal is to keep students, residents and property safe while educating young people about their responsibilities. Police say safety tips and reminders will be shared on social media throughout the month.
