Mayor Gilvesy clarifies facts on Norfolk Mall boundary talks

She emphasized that transparency remains a priority.

Tillsonburg Mayor Deb Gilvesy is clearing up confusion about recent discussions surrounding 400 Simcoe Street — known locally as the Norfolk Mall.

In a public statement, Gilvesy thanked Norfolk County for its accurate press release and stressed that no formal applications or boundary negotiations have taken place between the two municipalities.

At the October 14th Town Council meeting, Tillsonburg received a delegation from the County of Oxford presenting updated growth forecasts and land needs analysis. The report indicated that Tillsonburg will need additional commercial lands to support future development.

During the same meeting, Council also received correspondence from the property owners of 400 Simcoe Street asking that their land be considered for inclusion within the town’s limits.

Gilvesy noted that the water and sewer infrastructure servicing this property, and any significant growth or redevelopment on this site is limited unless it falls within the County’s jurisdiction.

She emphasized that transparency remains a priority, ensuring residents stay informed with verified facts.
