Khanna called the news “deeply saddening and concerning”
Oxford MP Arpan Khanna is expressing deep concern in the House of Commons over General Motors’ decision to halt production of the BrightDrop delivery van at the CAMI Assembly Plant in Ingersoll.
In a statement Khanna called the news “deeply saddening and concerning,” emphasizing that the impact goes far beyond the workplace, affecting families, friends, and neighbours across the community.
He extended his full support to Unifor Local 88 members and Plant Chairperson Mike Van Boekel, pledging to advocate for measures that protect Oxford’s auto workers and strengthen the local economy.
Khanna urged GM to explore solutions that would bring auto production back to Ingersoll, noting that CAMI’s workers are “highly skilled and invaluable assets to the Canadian auto sector.”
He added that the community’s resilience and dedication will be key during this difficult period.
