Olympics begin in Milano Cortina as Canadian snowboarder Cameron Spalding prepares for Big Air

Starting Monday, you'll be able to hear athlete profiles daily as part of MBC Media's PRIDE OF THE NATION series. 


Just like that, the Olympics in Milano Cortina have arrived. 
 
Competition started on Wednesday with curling, and continues on Thursday with curling, women's hockey and snowboarding.
 
Cameron Spalding is a member of the Canadian Olympic snowboard team and will be competing in Men's Big Air qualifying. The 20-year-old told us his passion for the sport started early. 


 
Spalding, who had World Cup victories in New Zealand, Switzerland in 2025, and a sixth-place finish at the World Championships, says representing Canada at the Olympics is going to be something he never forgets. 


 
In terms of legacy, Canada has long had an elite snowboarding program and Spalding says he and his teammates want to continue that trend. 
 
 
The Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic Winter Games Opening Ceremony will take place on Friday.
