Oxford County OPP officers are now equipped with body-worn cameras
The Oxford Ontario Provincial Police Detachment has begun using body-worn cameras as part of its ongoing work to improve community safety, transparency, and evidence collection.
The OPP says it supports any technology that helps officers gather better evidence and strengthens accountability during interactions with the public. The introduction of BWC follows the successful rollout of in-car cameras across the region, which included Automated Licence Plate Recognition technology.
Each Oxford OPP officer will receive their own body-worn camera during the rollout. The devices are worn on the front of the officer’s vest and are easy for the public to see. When in standby mode, the camera shows a green ring with flashing lights. When recording begins, the lights switch to flashing red.
Implementation across Oxford County is expected to be completed as soon as practicable, but officers who have finished training are already using the devices.
The OPP says these tools support proactive, modern policing and reflect its commitment to building safer communities in partnership with local residents.
