Oxford Community Foundation invests $36K in local food programs

The Oxford Community Foundation is making $36,800 in grant funding available to support food security programs across Oxford County.

The funding comes from The Maple Leaf Community Fund and will support capital-related projects that strengthen local food programs while promoting dignity and long-term community well-being.

The fund was created in honour of the late Harvey and Erma Beaty of Thamesford. Harvey founded Cold Springs Farm in 1949, which later became part of Maple Leaf Foods. The fund reflects the Beatys’ belief in strong communities built around access to nutritious food.

Grants will focus on three key areas: food literacy, school and community nutrition programs, and sustainable initiatives beyond traditional food banks. Eligible projects may include nutrition education, school meal programs, community gardens, and social enterprises that provide food training or employment opportunities.

“This funding represents more than a financial contribution—it represents lives changed and communities strengthened,” said Executive Director Louise Wardrop.

Local organizations are encouraged to apply to help build a stronger, more food-secure Oxford County.
