Formalizing medical oversight for firefighters in Oxford County will be the focus of debate at county council this week
Oxford County councillors are being asked to approve a new agreement that would formalize medical oversight for firefighters who provide critical first response at emergency scenes.
The proposed deal is between Oxford County and the Southwest Centre for Prehospital Care, which would offer medical delegation services, including training and support for firefighters responding to calls involving compromised airway, breathing or circulation.
All fire departments in Oxford County take part in tiered response agreements, allowing them to assist paramedics on select medical emergencies. Those agreements are approved by County Council and are intended to improve patient care during the critical minutes before paramedics arrive.
Council will address this issue at its meeting on Wednesday.
