Ground water is Oxford County's only municipal water source - it must be safeguarded.
You have a role to play in ensuring community drinking water remains safe.
Oxford County's Coordinator of the Source Water Protection Program Matthew Jauernig, talked to us about a new signage initiative.
Jauernig says since ground water is Oxford County's only municipal water source - it must be safeguarded - including whenever the well system expands.
Identifying protection zones is determined by the vulnerability to contamination. Jauering says under the Clean Water Act there are more than 20 prescribed drinking water threats.
Jauering says the new signage complements strategies that include property owner outreach which may involve visits by Risk Management experts to advise on best practices.
The new Source Water Protection signs are in several locations including near Tillsonburg along Brownsville Road, in Woodstock, near Innerkip, the Thamesford area and around Otterville.
