The Ontario Physical and Health Education Association awarded the Healthy Schools Certification.
Seven Thames Valley District School Board schools have earned provincial recognition for their health and wellness programming — with three of them located in Oxford County.
The Ontario Physical and Health Education Association (OPHEA) awarded Healthy Schools Certification to Eastdale Public School, Oliver Stephens Public School, and Winchester Street Public School for programs including after-school cooking clubs, student leadership recess initiatives, and sensory-mindfulness rooms, all designed to support mental health, nutrition, and positive school culture.
Eastdale Public School for its after-school cooking program, Wellness Club, and mental health initiatives
Oliver Stephens Public School for a student leadership recess initiative, and a focused Mental Health Week
Winchester Street Public School for its sensory-mindfulness room, food literacy program, and anti-bullying week focus
The schools partnered with Southwestern Public Health to implement these student-focused initiatives, promoting mental health, food literacy, and positive school culture.
“Research is clear that these initiatives provide youth with positive experiences and lifelong health and well-being benefits,” said Erica Arnett, Manager of Healthy Schools at Southwestern Public Health.
Four Elgin County schools — Arthur Voaden Secondary School, Elgin Court Public School, Locke’s Public School, and Summers’ Corners Public School— were also recognized.
