Shelter-in-place lifted in Woodstock after police arrest one person

Police say there is no threat to public safety.

Police say there is no threat to public safety after a shelter-in-place advisory was lifted this morning in Woodstock.

The advisory affected the area around Huron Street and Ingersoll Avenue. Just after 8:30 a.m., the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) confirmed the situation had been resolved and one person was taken into custody.

Earlier this morning, OPP West Region and Woodstock Police Service asked residents and businesses near Huron Street between Knightsbridge Road and Ingersoll Avenue, and along Ingersoll Avenue between Sutherland Drive and Sydenham Street, to shelter in place. Police were investigating an incident involving a potentially armed individual.

Residents were told to remain indoors with doors and windows locked as a precaution. Anyone outside was asked to move indoors to a secure location. Others were advised to avoid the area, where a heavy police presence was visible.

Police say there is no ongoing risk to the public. Officers may remain in the area as they complete their on-scene investigation.

Police thanked community members for their patience and understanding during the incident.
