SIU clears officers in London arrest injury case

They found no grounds to charge a London Police officer after a man was injured during an arrest.

The province’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has found no grounds to charge a London Police officer after a man was injured during an arrest in August.

Around 2 a.m. on August 14, 2025, officers responded to a report of a break and enter near Trafalgar Street and Clarke Road. Two men matching the suspects’ descriptions were found nearby. When one 39-year-old man tried to run away after being told he was being detained, an officer tackled him from behind.

He was taken into custody and later transported to hospital, where doctors diagnosed a fractured right clavicle.

After reviewing all evidence, SIU Director Joseph Martino concluded there were no reasonable grounds to believe the officer committed a criminal offence in connection with the injury.

The SIU is an independent agency that investigates incidents involving police where serious injury, death, or allegations of sexual assault occur.
