Thames Valley to host enhanced construction program Open House to highlight pathways into skilled trades

The program is designed to address growing demand for skilled trades workers.

The Thames Valley District School Board (TVDSB) is inviting students and families to learn how they can jump-start a future in the skilled trades at an Open House for the Enhanced Construction Program (ECP) on Wednesday, December 10th.

The event, held from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Carpenters Union Local 1946 Training Centre on Highbury Avenue, will showcase an innovative partnership between TVDSB and the union that provides students with hands-on carpentry experience while earning four academic credits in Math, English, and Construction Technology.

According to the board, ECP offers participants access to industry-recognized certifications, co-op placements, and a clear pathway to apprenticeships, union membership, and future employment.

The program is designed to address growing demand for skilled trades workers by giving students early exposure to carpentry and related careers. Attendees of the Open House will be able to tour the training facilities, meet instructors and union partners, and explore the tools and personal protective equipment (PPE) used in the field.

The Open House is open to all students and families interested in exploring alternative pathways and hands-on learning opportunities within Thames Valley.
